Mrs. Patsy Seitz has been an English and Bible teacher at Eastern Mennonite School for the past 6 years, but changes are coming her way for the 2010-2011 school year. She will be taking the title of Director of Academics, which is essentially Ernie Martin’s old position plus an extra focus on a curriculum for elementary through high school. The interview process for this role was lengthy and intense, covering the span of two months, but now the decision has been made, and Seitz finds herself in a period of transition.
This modified position is part of an effort to create administration with improved unity. The Director of Academics position is grouped together with a Director of Business and a Director of Advancement. Seitz’s role will include a plethora of responsibilities some of which include curriculum management, course scheduling, and finding resources for other teachers. Seitz said, “I’m looking forward to getting to know other teachers’ curriculum and getting to know what exciting things they’re doing in their classrooms…I feel like my appreciation for this school is going to increase because I will be seeing what else goes on outside my own classroom.”
Mrs. Seitz will continue to teach a few select classes in addition to her director role. She is thankful for this opportunity to continue interacting with students in a classroom setting. All of her middle school classes have been given to other teachers including Ben Bixler and Jared Stutzman, but she will continue to teach the high school classes Advanced Composition, Research Writing, and Publication Design and Production. In regard to her job change, Mrs. Seitz said, “I’ve always enjoyed new challenges…this challenge is definitely one that can keep me going for a long time.”
